INDIANAPOLIS -- Youngstown State senior forward Chelsey Haney (Hopewell, Pa.) is the Horizon League Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Valparaiso sophomore defender Shelby Oelschlager (Glendale, Ariz.) has earned Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 22-28.

Haney had a hand in three of YSU’s four goals last week as the Penguins opened the Horizon League schedule with a 1-0-1 record. The Penguins hosted the teams picked third (Wright State) and first (Milwaukee) in the preseason poll to start the League schedule. On Wednesday, the Penguins trailed 1-0 early in the second half when Haney was credited with an assist as YSU knotted up the score and eventually recorded a tie with the Raiders. On Saturday, YSU once again found itself in a 1-0 hole early in the second half, but Haney tied the match when she beat the UWM keeper to a ball in the center of the box and scored. With the match tied at two in the second overtime, Haney recorded the game-winning assist as Kathy Baquero scored to give the Penguins a 3-2 win over Milwaukee.

Youngstown State (5-4-2, 1-0-1) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Oakland (3-8-1, 1-1-0) at 7 p.m. ET.

Oelschlager played all 183 minutes at center back last week as the Crusaders recorded a pair of shutouts to start League play 2-0. Valpo is the only undefeated and untied team in the League after the first week of play. The Crusaders allowed only eight shots on goal in the two matches as they defeated Oakland, 3-0, on Wednesday and scored an overtime win at Cleveland State, 1-0, on Saturday night. In 10 games with Oelschlager at center back this season, Valpo has allowed just four games.

Valparaiso (5-1-4, 2-0-0) steps out of conference play this week, hosting Loyola on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
