Titans Rise Over The Crusaders On The Road, 78-57-- Box Score
VALPARAISO, Ind. (2/28/2015) -- A balanced scoring attack and some great defense added up to a road victory as the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team led from start to finish in a 78-57 victory at Valparaiso on Saturday afternoon.

The win improved Detroit to 11-16 overall and 6-8 in the Horizon League, while the loss dropped Valparaiso to 6-21, 2-12 in league play. The win also assured the Titans that they would not finish ninth like the Horizon League Preseason Poll had them picked.

Sophomore Haleigh Ristovski and freshman Nicole Urbanick tied for the team lead with 17 points, a season high for Urbanick. Freshman Darianne Seward tallied 12 points, tied her season high with eight rebounds and handed out a season-best six assists. Read more

Titans Spoil Senior Day with 76-57 Victory over Valpo-- Box Score
Senior Sharon Karungi (Kampala, Uganda/[Northern Oklahoma College]) and freshman Jasmyn Walker (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) both logged double-doubles, but Detroit shot 50% from the field to score a 78-57 victory over Valpo on Saturday afternoon at the Athletics-Recreation Center.

All five starters for Detroit finished in double figures, including Haleigh Ristovski and Nicole Urbanick who tallied team-high 17 points.

Junior Lexi Miller (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia) kept the Titans from running away with the game right out of the gate. She scored five of Valpo's first seven points. Her free-throws following the first official timeout cut Detroit's lead to 8-7. The Titans rattled off eight unanswered points to establish a comfortable lead at the 13-minute mark. Trailing by ten, Valpo assembled a 12-6 surge to make it 26-22 with just under seven minutes remaining in the stanza. Read more

Green’s 30 Points Leads Panthers To Senior Day Victory-- Box Score
MILWAUKEE - Senior Ashley Green set a school record with her fifth 30-point game of the season and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball team poured in 53 points in the second half to earn a 76-69 victory over Cleveland State University Saturday afternoon at the Klotsche Center.

The Panthers (9-17, 5-9 Horizon League) faced a six-point deficit at intermission against the Vikings (16-11, 8-6 Horizon League) but righted the ship and took over in the second half.

"Our team is one of those teams that, if we play with energy and emotion, we are tough to beat," UWM head coach Kyle Rechlicz said. "In the first half we were playing hard, we just weren't taking care of the basketball. We had five turnovers in a row and called a timeout and then we got focused. And it was really fun to watch our team come together and execute." Read more

Green Sets Single-Season Three-Point Record In Loss At Milwaukee-- Box Score
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Following four three-pointers against Milwaukee Saturday afternoon, senior Kiersten Green set a Cleveland State single-season record, converting 69 shots from behind-the-arc this season. Despite Green's record setting performance, the Cleveland State women's basketball team came up short against the Panthers, falling 76-69.

The loss drops CSU to 16-11 overall this season and 8-6 in league play, while Milwaukee improves to 9-17 overall and 5-9 in league action.

Brooke Smith tied her career-high against the Panthers, leading Cleveland State with 17 points. Green and Alexis Eckles each notched 16 points for the Vikings, while Cori Coleman finished with 12 – giving CSU four starters with double-digit points. Read more

Campbell Leads UIC Past Oakland, 64-54-- Box Score
CHICAGO - The UIC women's basketball team (16-11, 6-8 HL) concluded its regular season home schedule with a 64-54 victory over Oakland (11-17, 5-10 HL) Saturday afternoon. The Flames remain in sixth place after Detroit (11-16, 6-8 HL), who owns the tiebreaker over UIC, defeated Valparaiso, 78-57.

UIC limited Oakland to 29 percent shooting (22-of-74), including 18 percent from downtown (5-of-27). The Flames set a season high with nine blocks and only sent Oakland to the free throw line five times.

UIC has held 16 opponents under 40 percent shooting and the Flames are 11-0 when allowing less than 60 points. The Golden Grizzlies became the sixth UIC opponent to shoot under 30 percent from the field. Read more

Oakland Comeback Falls Short at UIC, 64-54-- Box Score
CHICAGO - Nola Anderson scored a team-high 22 points as the Oakland women's basketball team (11-17, 5-10) fell at UIC (16-11, 6-8), 64-54, Saturday evening at the UIC Pavilion.

Anderson collected her third 20-point performance of the season and also tied for the team-high with eight rebounds. Peyton Apsey and Elena Popkey each tallied nine points.

The Golden Grizzlies trailed by as many as 12 points in the second half but used a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 49-47 with 7:41 remaining in the half as Anderson finished an old-fashioned three-point play. The Flames battled back and used a 6-0 run of their own as Marissa Grossfield hit a triple to take back control and secure the win. Read more

Green Bay Continues Dominant Defense in Rout of Youngstown St.-- Box Score
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Increasing its winning streak to seven games, the Green Bay women’s basketball team continued its recent display of dominating defense, crushing Youngstown State 73-27 on Saturday evening at the Beeghly Center.

The 46-point victory margin is the largest for the Phoenix (24-4, 14-1 HL) this season, while the 15.0 percent (6-for-40) shooting performance by the Penguins (19-8, 8-6 HL) is only 0.1 percent worse than the new program-record set last weekend against UIC (14.9 percent).

Green Bay’s suffocating defense, which is now holding its league opponents to an astonishing 49.4 PPG this season, did not allow Youngstown State to make a field goal for an eternity of 15:05 during the end of the first half (12:12 total) and beginning of the second half (2:53 total). Youngstown State came in averaging 71.4 PPG, which ranked second in the league, and was held to its lowest point total of the season. Read more

Penguins Fall at Home to Green Bay-- Box Score
Horizon League regular-season champion Green Bay showed off its defensive prowess in holding the Youngstown State women's basketball team to 15 percent shooting in a 73-27 victory on Saturday afternoon at Beeghly Center.

The Penguins missed 22 of their final 23 shots in the first half as Green bay built a 40-11 advantage at halftime. YSU finished making just 6-of-40 from the field, including 2-of-25 from 3-point range. Youngstown State came into the contest shooting 43.1 percent overall and 36 percent from 3-point range.

Latisha Walker finished with 11 points and five rebounds in 20 minutes to lead the Penguins. YSU drops to 19-8 overall and 8-6 in Horizon League play. Read more
