LEXINGTON, Ky. - Detroit claimed its first ever Horizon League Women's Golf Championship today at the Kearny Hill Golf Links in Lexington, Ky.  The six-year old program totaled 943 strokes (+79) while last year's champion Youngstown State posted a 952 (+88) for runner-up honors.  Third-place Butler trailed the penguins by five strokes, recording 957 swings (+93) as Loyola (977, +113), Cleveland State (1011, +147), Green Bay (1020, +156) and Valparaiso (1167, +303) came in fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. 

Top individual honors went to Detroit junior Alainna Stefan as she shot a 54-hole score of 226 (+10).  Teammate Marni Achterhoff placed second with a three-round total of 229 (+13) and last year's individual medalist Samantha Formeck came in third, shooting 230 (+14).

All-Tournament Team accolades were presented at the awards banquet immediately after the event.  This year's recipients were Butler's Michele Nash, Cleveland State's Katie Broere, Detroit's Stefan and Achterhoff, Loyola's Nikki Miller and Youngstown State's Formeck, Katie Rogner and Brittany Stillwagon.

Also announced at the banquet were the 2010 All-League members, which were based on their performance during the entire season.  The honors went Butler's Nash and Molly Field, Cleveland State's Broere, Detroit's Stefan, Loyola's Miller and Lucy McGovern and Youngstown State's Formeck and Rogner.

Player of the Year laurels were given to Detroit's Formeck while Newcomer of the Year was presented to Cleveland State's Ariel Sparrow.  Detroit's Terri-Anthony Ryan took home the Titan's first ever Coach of the Year award.
