The Horizon League women's basketball regular season concluded this afternoon with eight teams in action. For the 17th-consecutive year, Green Bay is the No. 1 seed of the tournament while Wright State snagged the second seed and Cleveland State took third. Youngstown State slated No. 4 and will join the Vikings as one of the quarterfinal hosts on Wednesday, March 11. Detroit took fifth place in the League followed by UIC at No. 6, Oakland at No. 7, Milwaukee at No. 8 and Valparaiso rounding out the field.
The tournament kicks off Monday, March 9 as Milwaukee hosts Valparaiso in the first round of action. Top-seeded Green Bay will play against the winner of Milwaukee and Valparaiso on Wednesday, March 11 in the Quarterfinals in addition to Youngstown State hosting Detroit, UIC at Cleveland State and Oakland on the road at Wright State.
The semifinals and championship will take place at the highest remaining seed on Friday, March 13 and Sunday, March 15.

Penguins Clinch First-Round Home Game with 80-57 Win Over Valparaiso-- Box Score
The Youngstown State women's basketball team celebrated senior day with an 80-57 victory over Valparaiso on Saturday afternoon at the Beeghly Center.
The win secured a first round home game in the Horizon League Tournament on Wednesday and the program's second 20-win season in the last three years.
The Penguins finished the regular season 20-9 overall 9-7 in league play. They will enter the tournament as the fourth seed and will host fifth-seeded Detroit on Wednesday. Read more
Valpo Women Fall to YSU Saturday; Will Face Milwaukee Monday-- Box Score
Freshman Jasmyn Walker (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) vaulted her way into the Valpo record books, but Heidi Schlegel and the Youngstown State Penguins prevailed Saturday afternoon at the Beeghly Center, 80-57. Walker concluded the regular season with her ninth double-double in Horizon League play with 15 points and 11 boards. She's accumulated 241 rebounds this season, giving her the tenth-most ever by a Crusader in a single season. Walker sits ten rebounds shy of sole possession of sixth place in the school's single-season annals.
Dani Franklin (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/George Washington) matched her classmate's point total with 15, knocking down all six of her free-throw attempts and registering a 4-for-10 mark from the field. She wrapped up her first regular season with a 13.0 points per game average.
The Penguins (20-9, 9-7 Horizon) slowly but surely pulled away from the Brown and Gold in the first half. Lexi Miller (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia) nailed a three-pointer just before the second official timeout of the half to tie the game at 16-all. But Schlegel racked up 14 points over the next seven-and-a-half minutes to put Youngstown State ahead, 36-24. The Crusader defense contained Schlegel from the field in the first half, but the senior did plenty of damage from the free-throw line. Her 16 points (3-10 FG, 10-11 FT) boosted the Penguins to a 41-30 lead at the break. Read more

Green Bay Escapes Detroit with 52-51 Win on Senior Day-- Box Score
GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Leading by as many as 20 points, the Green Bay women’s basketball team escaped visiting Detroit after its three-pointer at the buzzer was off the mark on Saturday afternoon at the Kress Center.
Green Bay (25-4, 15-1 HL) was able to celebrate Senior Day with its closest margin of victory this season, sending off seniors Ellen Edison and Megan Lukan with another home win. Despite the senior day recognition that took place postgame, both seniors and Green Bay will play at least one more game at home when it hosts the winner of No. 8 seed Milwaukee and No. 9 seed Valparaiso on Tuesday (Mar. 11) night at 7 p.m.
The Phoenix led by 10 at the under-four media timeout, but saw the Titans (12-17, 7-9 HL) knock down three 3-pointers in the last 1:38 of play to cut the lead to one. With Green Bay up one and Detroit electing not to foul with a six second shot clock differential, GB missed a layup before the Titans’ Rosanna Reynolds desperation three missed the mark. Read more

GREEN BAY, Wis. (3/7/2015) -- Redshirt sophomore Rosanna Reynolds game-winning shot just came up short as the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team staged a huge rally to nearly upset first place Green Bay, 52-51, on Saturday at the Kress Center.
The loss dropped Detroit to 12-17 overall and 7-9 in the Horizon League. The Titans will be the fifth seed in the upcoming Horizon League Championship and will play their quarterfinals game at fourth-seeded Youngstown State on Wednesday, March 11, at 7:00 p.m.
Freshman Nicole Urbanick led the way with a game-high 17 points, tying her season high, along with five rebounds. Sophomore Haleigh Ristovski had 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals and Reynolds ended with 10 points, four boards and three assists. Read more
Vikings Claim 58-46 Victory Over UIC On Senior Day-- Box Score
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Behind the senior trio of Cori Coleman, Imani Gordon, and Kiersten Green, the Cleveland State women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 58-46 victory over UIC Saturday afternoon. The win came on Senior Day, as the senior trio combined for 47 of Cleveland State's 58 points.
The win improves CSU to 18-11 overall this season and 10-6 in league play, and solidifies the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Horizon League Tournament. A complete bracket for the 2015 Horizon League Tournament will be released in the coming days.
This is the first time since the 2010-11 season that the Vikings finished the regular season with double-digit wins in league play, and also the first time that CSU finished the regular season with at least 18 overall victories. Read more
Flames Fall in Regular Season Finale at Cleveland State-- Box Score
CLEVELAND - The UIC women's basketball team (16-13, 6-10 HL) ended the regular season Saturday afternoon with a 58-46 defeat at Cleveland State (18-11, 10-6 HL). The Flames earned the No. 6 seed of the Horizon League Tournament and will play at No. 3 Cleveland State Wednesday in the Quarterfinals.
The Flames held CSU to 26 percent shooting in the first half but the Vikings drained seven three-pointers in the second half, including four by Kiersten Green. CSU finished 10-of-22 from beyond the arc.
The Vikings scored 13 points off UIC's 21 turnovers and picked up 17 steals overall. CSU grabbed 13 offensive rebounds and tallied 14 second-chance points. Read more
