Second Half Surge Leads Oakland Over Valpo, 70-55, on Senior Night-- Box Score
ROCHESTER, Mich. - Nola Anderson scored 15 points and Amy Carlton added 13 as the Oakland women's basketball team (12-17, 6-10) defeated Valparaiso (6-22, 2-13), 70-55, Thursday night inside the Athletics Center O'rena in the regular-season finale. With the win, the Golden Grizzlies have secured the No. 7 seed in the Horizon League Tournament.

Anderson collected her 18th double-digit scoring effort of the season, while Carlton tallied her fifth of the season and first since Dec. 22 against IPFW. Popkey added 11 points and passed Hanna Reising (2006-10) for 21st on Oakland's all-time scoring list. Sinclair Russell grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds.

Oakland trailed 27-25 at halftime but started the second period on a 17-4 run led by Anderson with eight points. The Golden Grizzlies would never trail again as they shot over 50 percent in the half and forced 11 Valpo turnovers. Anderson netted 12 of her 15 points in the second half. Read more

Freshmen Shine, but Crusaders Fade in Oakland-- Box Score
The Valparaiso women's basketball team saw a two-point halftime lead evaporate in a 70-55 loss to Oakland at the Athletics Center O'Rena Thursday night in Rochester, Michigan.

Freshman Jasmyn Walker (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) squeezed a career-high 15 rebounds to go with seven points. Classmate Dani Franklin (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/George Washington) regained her early-February form as she posted 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting. The 22 points matched her career-best versus a Division I opponent.

Both teams limped out of the gate with a combined 6-for-27 shooting and nine turnovers leading to an 8-7 Oakland lead at the under-12 media timeout. Read more
