INDIANAPOLIS -- Green Bay senior midfielder Hannah Kernen (Belleville, Wis.) is the Horizon League Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Youngstown State junior defender Macey Riese (Miamisburg, Ohio) has earned Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 25-Sept. 1.

Kernen made her presence felt immediately in her first action of the season as she scored twice in Green Bay’s 3-1 win over Northern Iowa on Friday. She scored the game’s first goal in the 25th minute after collecting a pass in the box and then beating the goalkeeper. The senior made the score 2-0 early in the second half when a deflected ball landed at her feet and she put in the back of the net.

On Sunday, Kernen added her first assist of the season as the Phoenix dominated North Dakota, 6-0.

Green Bay is off to a 3-1 start and will play its first road game of the season on Friday as it travels to Chicago State.

Riese earned the Defensive Player of the Week nod after helping lead a defense that allowed just one goal and three shots on goal in two matches, while also scoring her first career goal. The junior defender scored on a header in Friday’s 2-0 win over VMI as the Penguins overwhelmed the Keydets, who got off only one shot and zero shots on goal. On Sunday, YSU controlled the match against Robert Morris, leading 2-0 at the half and after adding another goal held a 3-0 lead until RMU scored its first goal of the match in the 87th minute.

Youngstown State (2-2) returns to the pitch on Friday as it hosts Malone.
