INDIANAPOLIS – Detroit Mercy forward Spiro Pliakos began the 2017 season with two goals and has been named Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week. Milwaukee goalkeeper Freddy Lorenzen started his first season as a Panther with a shutout against Western Illinois and has been named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week.

Pliakos finished with four points on two goals, including a game-winning goal, helping lead the Titans to their first 2-0 start since the 2011 season. He finished the weekend with 11 shots overall, including six shots on goal. Pliakos scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, in a 2-1 victory over Stetson in the season opener on Friday. Pliakos, a three-time All-League player, took a career-high nine shots in the contest vs. Stetson, including all five Detroit Mercy shots on goal. The two goals against Stetson on Friday were Pliakos’ third career brace. He added two more shots in Sunday’s victory over LIU-Brooklyn.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK | FREDDY LORENZEN | MILWAUKEE | FRESHMAN | GOALKEEPER | ELMSHORN, GERMANY
The freshman goalkeeper got his collegiate career off to a fast start last weekend, posting an unbeaten 1-0-1 record. His first start was a shutout of Western Illinois. He followed that up with a strong showing in UWM's 1-1 draw against Eastern Illinois Sunday. He has five saves and a 0.45 GAA after two games.
