INDIANAPOLIS- Green Bay Middle Blocker Lydia DeWeese helped guide the Phoenix to a 3-0 opening weekend sweep, was named EIU Panther Classic Tournament MVP, and has been awarded Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week. IUPUI senior defensive specialist Jessica Helms led all Horizon League players with 69 digs this weekend, earning Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week recognition.

Offensive Player of the Week | Lydia DeWeese, Green Bay | Senior | Middle Blocker | Columbus, Ohio

DeWeese was named Tournament MVP at the EIU Panther Classic this weekend, leading her team to a perfect 3-0 record, two of which came in straight sets. She led Green Bay with 37 kills and a .423 hitting clip, the second-highest hitting percentage of any other Horizon League player. DeWeese also racked up nine blocks and recorded 18 kills in only three sets in her team’s first game of the season.

Defensive Player of the Week | Jessica Helms, IUPUI | Senior | Defensive Specialist | Muncie, Ind.

Helms averaged 5.75 digs/set for the week, helping IUPUI to a runner-up finish at the FGCU Hilton Garden Inn Invitational. She opened the year with 16 digs in the win over Georgia Southern (Aug. 26), followed up with a career-high 36 digs in the come-from-behind win over FIU (Aug. 27), and capped the three-game tournament with 17 digs in the 3-0 loss to FGCU (Aug. 27). The senior tops in the league in digs after the season’s opening week.
