INDIANAPOLIS -- Oakland junior Olivia Nash (Escanaba, Mich.) is the Horizon League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Detroit’s Darianne Seward (Columbus, Ohio) is the Freshman of the Week for the week of Dec. 22-28. This is the second-straight week that Seward has garnered the award.

Oakland ended its 2014 campaign on the road this past week taking on IPFW and Central Michigan. The Golden Grizzlies dominated the Mastodons, 92-84, with their point total being the highest against Division I opponents so far this season. After being tied at 37 apiece at the conclusion of the first half and matched at 67-67 late in the second, Oakland went on a 13-4 run en route to a 55 point performance in the final 20 minutes to capture the victory. Nearly a week later, the Golden Grizzlies faced the Chippewas at McGuirk Arena and were defeated 74-69. Despite outshooting Central Michigan from the floor and eventually tying the ballgame at 59-59, late layups and free throws gave the Cappewas the eventual advantage to capture the victory.

Nash was the steady presence for Oakland in its two matches as she notched back-to-back double-doubles to total five so far this season and 20 for her career. In the first contest of the week facing IPFW, the junior netted 15 points while grabbing 12 rebounds in the victory. She topped that performance against the No.15 ranked Central Michigan in the mid-major polls after tallying 16 points from the floor and collecting 13 boards. For the week, Nash averaged 15.5 ppg and 12.5 rpg in her 64 minutes on the court for the Golden Grizzlies.

Detroit traveled south to go up against Cincinnati early in the week and fell to the Bearcats. Cincinnati took an early lead in the game as the Titans were unable to fill the scoring gap in the loss at Fifth Third Arena.

Seward led Detroit in the matchup with 11 points from the floor while garnering five rebounds. As the only Titan in double figures, she also dished out an assist and notched a steal versus the Bearcats.

Oakland continues action next year on January 2 versus Dartmouth on the road with the game set to tip-off at 2:00 p.m. ET. Detroit travels to nearby Ypsilanti, Mich. on December 30 as the squad faces in-state foe Eastern Michigan starting at 7:00 p.m. ET at the Convocation Center.
