OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (1/6/2017) -- University of Detroit Mercy senior guard Rosanna Reynolds (Canton, Mich. / Divine Child) has been selected as one of 30 Division I women's basketball student-athletes across the nation named as a Senior Class Award candidate.
Reynolds is the lone men's or women's basketball student-athlete from the Horizon League to receive the distinction and receive consideration for the honor.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: Community, Classroom, Character and Competition. Each of the 30 candidates will be narrowed down to a field of 10 finalists in February and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot, which will be distributed to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male and female candidate as winners of the Senior Class Award.
Reynolds has exemplified all four C's during her career at the University of Detroit Mercy. The two-time All-Horizon League player is among the school's leader in several statistical categories and leads the Titans this season in scoring, averaging 15.8 points per game through 13 games. She leads the Horizon League in assists (5.8 per game), which also currently ranks 28th in the NCAA.
Reynolds is the first player in school history with 1,400 points, 500 rebounds and 450 assists. She is the active career leader in the Horizon League in both points (1,432) and assists (470). Reynolds is also just eight points away from fifth place on the all-time scoring list and 16 assists away from second place in career assists.
The Co-Horizon League Student-Athlete of the Winter in 2015-16, Reynolds graduated with her undergraduate degree in May and is working on a five-year MBA program at Detroit Mercy. She finished her bachelor's degree with a 3.72 GPA. She has been a captain the last couple of seasons with the Titans.
Reynolds has earned numerous other honors while a student-athlete with Detroit Mercy, including being named to the Horizon League Winter All-Academic Team in each of the past two seasons as well as receiving the Athletic Department's Dad Butler Award in the past two years for showing dedication to practice and having the ability to rehabilitate an injury to his or her fullest capabilities.
The Titans, 2-0 in the Horizon League, return to the hardwood Saturday at rival Oakland for a 3 p.m. ET contest at the O'Rena in Rochester.
