Almost three months after it started, the eight Horizon League women’s soccer teams will complete the regular season Friday night with a lot still to be played for.

Three schools (Milwaukee, Oakland and Wright State) have already clinched a bid into the six-team Horizon League tournament that starts next Tuesday. Those three teams are also all still fighting for the overall number one seed in the tournament and the opportunity to host the semifinals and finals of the tournament.

Milwaukee (7-8-1, 5-1) enters the final day of the regular season in first place. A win for the Panthers at Oakland (9-7-1, 4-2) gives UWM its 15th Horizon League women’s soccer title, the number one seed in the tournament and means they will play the tournament on their home field, Laura Moynihan Field at Englemann Stadium.

But a loss or tie to the Golden Grizzlies would give Wright State (7-5-4, 4-1-1) or Oakland the chance to be the number one seed and host the tournament. If Wright State defeats Cleveland State and UWM does anything less than win at Oakland, the Raiders will be the number one seed and will host the tournament’s semifinals and finals.  For Oakland to host, the Golden Grizzlies need to defeat Milwaukee and then have Wright State lose or tie with Cleveland State.

For Detroit (9-7-1, 3-3), Valparaiso (8-6-2, 2-3-1), Youngstown State (4-11-1, 2-4) and Cleveland State (8-8-1, 2-4) the final night of the regular season will have a lot riding on it as all four programs still are playing for their postseason lives. There are numerous scenarios on how those teams will work it out, but the one thing certain is that one of those teams will have its season end tonight as there are three spots still up for grabs in the League tournament and four teams vying for those spots.

Three of the four matches tonight will be streamed on HLN. Be sure to stay tuned to horizonleague.com and the official Twitter account of the Horizon League, @HorizonLeague, for information on the 2013 Horizon League Women’s Soccer Tournament.
