Youngstown State's Jarrett, Rupe Sweep Runner of the Week Honors

INDIANAPOLIS – Youngstown State senior Ciara Jarrett (Milwaukee, Wis.) and junior teammate Eric Rupe (Cortland, Ohio) have been named Horizon League Indoor Track Runners of the Week for the week of Jan. 21-27.

Competing in her first meet of the indoor season, Jarrett turned in three first-place finishes at the YSU Invitational, including a win in the long jump. On her first jump, Jarrett posted a distance of 5.41m to win the event by .01m. She also placed first in both the 60m dash and the 200m dash. In the 60m, the senior sprinted to a 7.67 finish to hold of six other runners. Stacking up against 87 runners in the 200m dash, Jarrett posted a time of 24.88 to top Jordan Hoyt of Pittsburgh by .11 seconds.

Rupe has continued his winning ways in the indoor track season, posting a time of 14:47.00 to win the 5000m by 4.5 seconds. The 2013 Horizon League Cross Country Athlete of the Year has yet to be beaten in the Penguins first two meets of the indoor season.

The Penguins are back in action Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at the SPIRE Invitational in Geneva, Ohio.

Other Top Runners of the Week:
Marquis Johnson, Milwaukee (So., Lac du Flambeau, Wis.) - Placed second in both the 400m (49.28) and the 4x400 relay (3:23.54) at the John Craft Invite. 
Brandon Wilks, Detroit (Fr., Southfield, Mich.) - At the IPFW Quadrangular, Wilks placed first in the 60m dash (7.03) and second in the 200m (22.69).
Allison Garner, Detroit (So., South Bend, Ind.) - Placed first in the 60m dash with a time of 7.86 and second in the 200m dash with a time of 26.76 at the IPFW Quadrangular.
Kacia Grant, Wright State (Jr., Reynoldsburg, Ohio) - Sprinted to a 60m dash time of 7.84 and a 200m dash time of 25.88 at the Gladstein Invitational.
Simbi Laaro, Milwaukee (Jr., Green Bay, Wis.) - Took home first-place honors in the 60m dash with a time of 7.55 at the John Craft Invite. Was also apart of the 4x400 relay team that finished second.
