INDIANAPOLIS –Youngstown State sophomore forward Brandi Brown has been named Horizon League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 28, her second this year.

Brown helped Youngstown State win back-to-back conference games for the first time since 2008, defeating UIC and Loyola, giving the Penguins a 4-14 Horizon League record, and the ninth seed.

The Pamona, Calif. native scored a career-high 35 points against UIC on Thursday, en route to a 72-58 victory, the most by a Penguin since 2000.  She also tied a school record going 12-for-12 from the free throw line against the Flames.

Brown then scored 27 points as the Penguins downed the Ramblers, 84-65 on Saturday.

The All-League second team honoree is currently leading the league in scoring with 20.0 points per contest and has scored at least 20 points in her last seven contests. 

Brown also totaled 18 rebounds, three assists and two steals on the week.    

Youngstown State will head to Loyola for the first round of the Horizon League Championship tournament on Monday at 8pmET.  The winner will then face Green Bay in Wednesday’s quarterfinal.
