CLEVELAND, Ohio – Behind a career-high 20-point performance from sophomore Alexis Eckles, the Cleveland State women's basketball team defeated Notre Dame (OH), 83-67 Saturday afternoon, improving to 3-2 overall this season and 2-0 at home.
Eckles posted her 20 points on a 9-for-11 performance from the floor and a 2-for-2 effort from the free throw line in just 14 minutes of action. She also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, including three offensive boards.
The Vikings had three additional players finish in double-figures – Adesuwa Aideyman (13 points), Kiersten Green (12 points), and Brooke Smith (11 points). Read more
Penguins Escape With 51-50 Win Over Nicholls State-- Box Score
Nashville, Tennessee -- Indiya Benjamin's free throw with seven seconds remaining helped the Youngstown State women's basketball team escape with a 51-50 win over Nicholls State in the first game of the Teresa Phillips Thanksgiving Classic at Tennessee State's Gentry Center on Saturday.
Benjamin split a pair of free throws to break a 50-50 tie, and Nikki Arbanas did not allow Nicholls State leading scorer Emani White to get off a quality shot as time expired.
The Penguins, who improved to 5-0 for the first time in 18 years, survived 27 turnovers behind another strong defensive effort. YSU held the Colonels to 26.7 percent shooting behind five blocks from Latisha Walker and strong on-ball defense by Arbanas. Youngstown State has now held four straight opponents under 55 points, and the defense allowed Nicholls State to turn those 27 turnovers into just 12 points. Read more
Green Bay Storms Back Late to Knock Off Arizona State-- Box Score
ESTERO, Fla. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Adding a victory over a Pac-12 team, the Green Bay women’s basketball continued its outstanding stretch of basketball with a 63-57 victory over Arizona State in the Gulf Coast Showcase semifinals on Saturday night at Germain Arena.
Green Bay (5-1), now winners of four-straight games, trailed by as much as nine points in the second half before storming back to pull out the six-point victory. The Phoenix will now play the winner of No. 3 UConn and Vanderbilt in the Gulf Coast Showcase Tournament Championship game tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. CT.
The Phoenix saw four players in double figures, led by Mehryn Kraker’s 19 points. Lexi Weitzer finished with 12 points and seven rebounds, playing the best game of her career on one of the biggest stages. Megan Lukan ended the game with 13 points and her sister Kaili Lukan finished with 12 points, with Kaili Lukan scoring two huge baskets that gave Green Bay the lead for good down the stretch. Titans Tripped Up At Niagara-- Box Score
NIAGARA, N.Y. (11/29/2014) -- Freshman Darianne Seward had 12 points and redshirt sophomore Rosanna Reynolds netted 10 as the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team fell on the road at Niagara, 71-49, on Saturday night.
Freshman Nicole Urbanick had nine on three 3-pointers and sophomore Haleigh Ristovski added four points, five rebounds and tied her career high for the third time this season by handing out five assists.
Both teams came out shooting in the first half opening 4-of-9 from the field and the game was tied at 11-11 seven minutes in. Detroit (1-4) actually scored the game's first five points and after back-to-back treys by Reynolds and Urbanick, the Titans led 11-3 at the 16:54 mark. Read more
