INDIANAPOLIS – After day two at the 2011 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, nine Horizon League Championship records were broken. Both Milwaukee men and women are in first-place with the men recording 103 points and the women earning 77 points. Youngstown State women are not far behind with 72 points.
Milwaukee men and women broke a total of six records throughout the day. Junior, Drew Feuk, won the decathlon, earning 6,532 points, while sophomore Shelby Schaal won the heptathlon event with 4,910 points, both Horizon League meet records. Panther senior, Erin Havener, won the women’s pole vault competition with a meet record leap of 3.85 meters and Garrett Vetesnik and Ben Crogan competed in the men’s pole vault competition both setting a meet record of 5.00m.
Durell Busby, a Milwaukee freshman, set a record in the 110 meter-hurdles prelims competition, finishing in a time of 14.23 and also set a meet record in the men’s javelin throw, with a mark of 58.50m.
Youngstown State senior, Alisha Anthony won the women’s long jump competition with a meet record leap of 6.02m and teammate Jessica Parham won the women’s javelin with a mark of 41.89m, also a meet record. Penguin sophomore, Samantha Hamilton won the 3,000m Steeplechase, finishing in a time of 10:56.87 and teammate Kaitlyn Griffith won the hammer throw with a mark of 54.88m.
James McLachlan, a Loyola freshman also set a meet record in the men’s long jump, with a leap of 7.63m.
Butler sophomore, Craig Jordan won the men’s 3,000m Steeplechase, finishing in a time of 9:19.13.
Sunday’s competition will begin with field events starting at 11am(EST) and final running events beginning at noon with the 4 x 100m Relay.
