Road Teams Sweep Saturday Action; #HLMBB Update Jan. 14

All three visitors claimed wins Saturday in Horizon League men’s basketball action, with Valparaiso, Wright State and UIC notching conference wins. Valparaiso’s Alec Peters scored 30 points and climbed into fifth place on the all-time Horizon League scoring chart – passing Keifer Sykes of Green Bay and Cedrick Banks of UIC - in the Crusaders’ win at Cleveland State. Wright State rallied behind Mark Alstork’s 17 second-half points to clip Milwaukee by three. UIC’s bench poured in 51 points, including a career-high 21 from Dominique Matthews, as the Flames outlasted Youngstown State in overtime.

Valparaiso 78, at Cleveland State 67*
The Valparaiso University men’s basketball team locked down defensively on either side of halftime at Cleveland State Saturday afternoon as it overcame a double-figure deficit, and the Crusaders held off the Vikings down the stretch to earn a 78-67 victory for their third consecutive win. Senior Alec Peters led the way with 30 points – his ninth career effort of at least 30 points.

Wright State 70, at Milwaukee 67*
Down 11 with 14 minutes to play, the Wright State men's basketball team outscored Milwaukee 34-20 the rest of the way, half of those coming from Mark Alstork, as they rallied for a 70-67 Horizon League victory at Milwaukee Saturday afternoon.

UIC 92, at Youngstown State 89 (OT)*
UIC (10-8, 3-2 Horizon League) and Youngstown State (8-11, 2-4 Horizon League) needed an extra five minutes to decide an Horizon League classic, and in the end, the Flames came out on top, 92-89. Dominique Matthews scored a career-high 21 points, while Tarkus Ferguson notched his second double-double of the season behind 15 points and 10 rebounds.
