Valpo Hands Green Bay First League Loss; #HLMBB Update Jan. 16

Valparaiso clamped down defensively, limiting Green Bay to 31 percent shooting, and put four players in double-figures to hand the Phoenix their first Horizon League loss of the season. Alec Peters posted his 12th double-double of the season with 20 points and 16 rebounds and became Valpo’s all-time leading rebounder. Cleveland State got a career-high 32 points from Rob Edwards and handed Oakland a second league defeat. Detroit Mercy won its second straight game as Josh McFolley posted career-highs with eight 3-pointers and 26 points in the win against Youngstown State.

VALPARAISO, Ind. – Alec Peters became Valparaiso’s all-time leading rebounder and posted a 20-point, 16-rebound double-double as the Crusaders (15-4, 5-1 Horizon League) handed Green Bay its first Horizon League loss of the season Monday night at the ARC.

Valpo limited Green Bay to 31 percent from the floor and out-rebounded the Phoenix (11-7, 5-1) 51-39. Four Crusaders scored in double-figures – Peters, Tevonn Walker (13), Shane Hammink (12) and Micah Bradford (11).

Cleveland State 76, at Oakland 65*
ROCHESTER, Mich. – Rob Edwards scored a career-high 32 points and Cleveland State never trailed in a 76-65 victory at Oakland on Monday night at The Blacktop at The O'rena.

CSU improved to 6-13 overall and 2-5 in the Horizon League, while Oakland fell to 14-5 overall (4-2 HL).

at Detroit Mercy 87, Youngstown State 71*
DETROIT (AP) -- Josh McFolley hit eight 3-pointers and scored 26 points -- both career highs -- to lead Detroit Mercy to an 87-71 win over Youngstown State on Monday night.

Jarod Williams finished with 11 points while Patrick Robinson Jr. and Gerald Blackshear each scored 10 for Detroit (4-14, 2-4 Horizon League), which shot 48.3 percent from the field and hit 14 3-pointers.
