Boasting a 9-2 record and a four-game winning streak, the Green Bay women’s basketball team entered familiar territory on Monday, receiving its highest number of votes this season to be ranked No. 24 in this week’s edition of the Associated Press Top 25 poll.

The Phoenix, which has racked up numerous notable victories throughout the season, received 84 votes in the poll. That total was 48 votes higher than 25th-ranked Arizona State, which the Phoenix defeated earlier this season as ASU’s only loss of the season. Green Bay trailed No. 23 Iowa by 15 votes and No. 22 Syracuse by 25 votes.

Green Bay is the only mid-major program ranked in the top 25.

The national ranking marks the first time the Phoenix has been ranked in the top 25 since the final poll of the 2012-13 season. The national exposure and acclaim has been a reoccurring theme for the Green Bay women’s basketball program, which has now been ranked at some point during the season in four out of the last five years.

Green Bay has tallied wins this season over Wisconsin, Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Purdue and Marquette. Not listed in those wins are two impressive victories of Duquesne and South Dakota State, both postseason participants from a season ago.

In the latest RPI rankings, the Phoenix is No. 6 and has been in or around the top 10 all season in that category. Green Bay is one of only two mid-major programs in the top 10 of the RPI rankings.

South Carolina is ranked No. 1 once again this week, with UConn (No. 2), Texas (No. 3), Notre Dame (No. 4) and Texas A&M (No. 5) rounding out the top 5. 25.

Green Bay will visit Dayton, which ranked No. 13 in the latest RPI rankings, this coming Sunday in its final road nonconference game of the season. The Phoenix and Flyers tip off at 1 p.m. CT.
