INDIANAPOLIS -- Wright State senior Tay’ler Mingo (Akron, Ohio) is the Horizon League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Detroit’s Darianne Seward (Columbus, Ohio) is the Freshman of the Week for the week of Dec. 15-21. This is the second time this year that Mingo has garnered the award.
Wright State (8-3) competed in four games this past week, three of which were at the BTI Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. hosted by Purdue. The Raiders kicked off the week at home with a solid win over Otterbein, 104-51 which marked the most points ever scored by the school in its Division I era. The squad then took the road to face Denver in the opening round of the Invitational and erased an early deficit to claim the victory, 72-63. The following game, Wright State utilized the second half to pull away from UC Irvine to pick up the its second win of the weekend, 80-42. In the championship game, the Raiders fell to Purdue 70-46 as the team went cold from the field and were not able to keep up with the Boilermakers once they hit a double-digit advantage.
Mingo was selected to the BTI All-Tournament Team after three standout performances to wrap up the week in which she averaged 22.0 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 5.8 apg and 4.3 spg. In the first game against Denver, the senior netted 25 points, 16 of which were in the second half, and dished out nine assists for a near double-double. While taking on UC Irvine, Mingo led all scorers with 22 points and also contributed six assists and snagged six steals. In the finals, she notched a game-high 23 points versus Big Ten-foe Purdue while collecting three steals to cap off her weekend showing.
Detroit (5-6) hosted two home games last week, welcoming Delaware State and Western Michigan to Calihan Hall. In the 74-52 win over Delaware State, head coach Autumn Rademacher became the all-time wins leader at Detroit with victory No. 94. Three Titans notched double-digit points in the contest while shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor as a team. On Saturday, Detroit hosted in-state rival Western Michigan and fell to the Broncos, 71-57.
Seward averaged 17.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.5 apg and 1.5 spg over the two games while tallying season-best performances. The freshman scored 16 points against Delaware State and added five rebounds, four assists and two steals in the contest. Seward tabbed season-highs in points and rebounds versus the Broncos, netting 19 from the floor and grabbing 8 boards.
Wright State hosts Chicago State on December 29 at 7:00 p.m. ET and Central State December 31 at Noon ET, with both games streamed live on ESPN3. The Titans take the road to Cincinnati, Ohio to face the Bearcats on December 23 for a Noon ET tip-off.
Top Players of the Week:
Ruvanna Campbell, UIC (Jr., F): Tied her season-high in points with 26 against Chicago State and also added 18 rebounds. The junior was selected to the All-Tournament Team at the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic and averaged 12.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and two blocks against Mississippi State and Old Dominion.
Imani Gordon, Cleveland State (Sr., F): Notched a season-high 26 points against Belmont and tallied her first double-double of the year taking on Morehead State with 15 points and 10 rebounds. The senior’s 10 rebounds against Morehead State helped her become the 15th Viking all-time to notch 600 boards on their career.
Ashley Green, Milwaukee (Sr., F/G): Posted a near double-double in the win over Chicago State with 25 points and nine rebounds. During the contest, the senior shot close to 60 percent from the field while also dishing out two assists and tallying three steals.
Olivia Nash, Oakland (Jr., F): Recorded a career-high 27 points in the win over Texas A&M- Corpus Christi while hitting a career-best 11 field goals and grabbing nine rebounds. The junior also netted 11 points against Indiana.
Rosanna Reynolds, Detroit (So., G): Recorded her third 20+ point performance on the season against Delaware State with 22 points while also netting 13 versus Western Michigan.
Latisha Walker, Youngstown State (Sr., F): Over three games, averaged 11.7 ppg and 10.3 rpg, with game-highs of 15 points and 12 rebounds versus Pittsburgh.
Top Freshmen of the Week:
Jenny Lindner, Milwaukee (G): Netted 14 points and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds in the victory over Chicago State, just missing her first double-double as a Panther.
Krista Pietropola, Youngstown State (G): Went 6-for-9 from three-point range in two contests while averaging 9.0 ppg and 3.0 rpg for the week.
Lexi Smith, Wright State (F): Tallied 16 points and seven rebounds against Otterbein in addition to 13 points and 10 rebounds versus UC Irvine and six points and eight boards facing Denver.
