Women's Basketball Defeats Ohio Valley, 84-33
Youngstown -- Four players scored in double figures, and a total of 12 different players scored as the Youngstown State women's basketball team defeated Ohio Valley 84-33 on Friday afternoon at the Beeghly Center.
Leading the Penguins, who improve to 10-0, was freshman Krista Pietrapola with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field, including five 3-pointers.
Freshmen Kelly Wright and Morgan Olson scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, and junior Janae Jackson added 10 points. The Penguins bench scored 60 of the 83 points, and YSU outrebounded OVU, 53-32, for the game. The Penguins also made nine 3-pointers, led by Pietrapola's five and three froom Wright. No YSU starter played more than 14 minutes. Read more
Women Open BTI Invitational With Win Over Denver-- Box Score
The Wright State women's basketball team had four starters score in double figures as the Raiders erased an early 10-point deficit and went on to a 72-63 win over Denver Friday at the BTI Invitational in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Denver hit three three-pointers in jumping out to a 15-5 just 4:30 into the contest, only to see WSU answer with a 15-0 run over the next five minutes, four each by Tayler Stanton and Tay'ler Mingo. The Raiders extended the advantage to 27-18 on a Mingo three-point play and a Stanton layup and took a 37-27 lead into halftime as Breanna Stucke connected on a three in the closing seconds.
Wright State shot 39 percent in the first half compared to 36 percent for the Pioneers as WSU led 16-8 in points in the paint and 8-3 in points off of turnovers. Read more
